Private Lessons will be available through the end of the season, however beginner terrain is not available. Lessons should be booked same-day at Main Lodge to confirm terrain options. Group Lessons have ended for the 21/22 season.

For the beginner requiring patience and care, the intermediate who wants more confidence in the bumps, or the expert just needing a guide, private lessons allow you to customize your experience. With one-on-one attention, your instructor will personalize the lesson to your needs in a fun and attentive environment.

Private lessons do not include a lift ticket or rental equipment.

You must have a valid lift ticket or season pass while skiing and snowboarding. All-day and 3-hour lessons receive priority with regard to instructor preference. Please book early to ensure availability.

** When you book a private lesson, you can customize your experience. Go it alone with your own personal pro, or bring some friends and push your whole crew to the next level.

Popular instructors and lesson times book fast so advance reservations are recommended. Children under 51" in height are required to ride all chair lifts with an adult. If your private lesson group includes more than three children under that height, an adult must be available to accompany the group to assist in chairlift riding.

Private lessons are for everyone – skiers, snowboarders, adults, children, beginners, experts, and everything in-between. Our instructors will customize your private lesson for your ability and goals.

Skip The Line

Skip the line at the chairlift with priority access during your private lesson so you get more time on the mountain and with your instructor — more laps, more lesson, more powder.

Bring Your Friends

Bring friends to your private lesson — share the cost, and the fun. New for the 21/22 season, most private lessons can include up to 5 people at no additional cost. For safety reasons, the lesson pace will be geared towards the slowest person(s). For this reason, we do not recommend combining groups with young children (under 6) with older kids or adults.

What Level Am I?

Find out how to classify yourself to your instructor, and get your lessons started on the right foot. Knowing your level will help set the tone for your lesson, and kick your progression into high gear.

Beginners

For those who have never skied/snowboarded before, or know the basics and are comfortable on easy trails. Learn how to balance, stop and turn in the dedicated beginner zone and get introduced to the skills necessary to ski and ride safely on green runs.

Intermediate

For those comfortable making a few turns on most blue runs. Learn techniques and drills designed to master blue runs and build confidence on a wider variety of terrain.

Advanced

For those confident skiing/snowboarding on all terrain, including steep and challenging features. Lessons are tailored to each student's specific technical goals for the type of the terrain they're interested in mastering.

For your convenience, Mammoth provides a Ski & Snowboard School at each base lodge – Main, Canyon and Eagle. All private lessons, regardless of age, will meet on-snow at the base lodge that you choose on your reservation. Always check to see which location you reserved your lesson at before arriving. Please note that while each lodge caters to all ski and snowboard levels, Main Lodge has the most ideal beginner lift and terrain for first-time skiers and snowboarders.

Private Lesson FAQs

Does my lesson include lift tickets?

No. Mammoth does not offer packages for private lessons, making it easier to just select what you need. Rentals and demos are available at any base lodge and in The Village, and a valid ticket or season pass is required to ski or snowboard on Mammoth Mountain. Please ensure you have reserved a lift ticket before booking your lesson.

Do I need to book my private lesson in advance?

Yes, advanced reservations are highly recommended, especially during weekends and holidays. Popular instructors and lesson times book up fast.

What time should I arrive to make it to my lesson?

If you need equipment, we recommend arriving for morning lessons when our Rental Shops open at 8AM, and at least 1 hour before afternoon lessons begin. If you are able, pick up your rentals the afternoon prior to your lesson between 1–3PM.

Do I need to reserve rentals in advance?

Rental reservations are recommended for the 21/22 winter season. All rentals are bookable online in advance and may be picked up from 1–3PM the day prior, or starting at 8AM the day of your reservation. Rentals must be picked up at the rental location indicated in your reservation.

How many people can be in the private lesson?

You may include up to 5 people in your 3 & 7-hour private lessons. 1-hour lessons have a maximum of two students. In the interest of safety, lessons are geared toward the lowest skill level, so it is advisable to arrange your lesson group with similar skill sets, and not combine adults and young children.

Can I have multiple ability levels and age groups in the same private lesson?

This is not generally recommended. If you choose to do so, the instructor will choose the terrain that is best suited to the needs of the least experienced guest. When booking your private lesson, the more you can tell us about the experience you're looking for, the better we will be able to pair you with the best instructor for your needs.

Can both skiers and snowboarders attend the same private lesson?

This is not generally recommended as it is very difficult for an instructor to teach snowboarding while wearing skis and vice versa. We can do our best to accommodate a private lesson for both disciplines so long as everyone is at an intermediate level or higher. Please contact us to let us know if you will have both skiers and snowboarders so that we can match your group with an appropriate instructor.

Can I split the private lesson time between multiple people?

Yes, your time with your private lesson instructor can be divided any way you like. For example, if you purchase a 3-hour private lesson, your instructor could spend an hour with your 7-year-old beginner and 2 with your 10-year-old intermediate.

Do my kids need helmets?

Yes. All kids 14 and under are required to wear helmets and protective eyewear (sunglasses or goggles) while in a lesson.

What if I need to cancel?
